Police & emergency services


The ACT’s police and emergency services are our first responders in times of crisis, and operate with some of the best response times in the country. The 2018 Budget will deliver more frontline staff and better equipment to back them up when keeping our growing city safe.

The ACT’s police force has more than 940 FTE including sworn officers and professional staff. Last year ACT Policing received more than 300,000 calls. We have 233 paramedics and 334 Fire & Rescue officers. Last year the ACT Ambulance Service responded to 52,084 incidents, and ACT Fire & Rescue responded to 11,357 incidents.

$1.3 billion over 4 years protecting our community

New ambulance crew in times of need: This year the ACT Government has already delivered on our election commitment to add a new crew to the ACT Ambulance Service and put another two new ambulances on the road.

 In this budget: 4 specialist positions expanding strategic analysis capability, 2 new specialist officers improving surveillance of criminal gangs, training 18 new firefighters ensuring rapid response to emergencies, delivering on our election commitment to purchase a new aerial pumper and new defibrillators & electric stretchers for the ACT ambulance Service
