The ACT Government believes all children deserve the best start in life. We are investing in quality education and healthcare, and ensuring that all Canberra kids feel safe and protected in their community.
Giving our kids the best start
Keeping our kids healthy
Our childhood immunisation rates are regularly above the national average and some of the highest in the country.
The ACT Government delivers free childhood immunisations through our Maternal and Child Health Clinics – 95 per cent of kids in the ACT are fully immunised by the time they are five years old. We also deliver health checks to Kindergarten kids across all ACT primary schools, focusing on their vision, hearing, height, weight, and development.
The ACT Government is funding free flu vaccinations for six month to five year old Canberra kids.
Keeping our kids active
The ACT Government maintains 505 playgrounds across Canberra for families and kids to enjoy.
After consulting with the community, we have begun building a new community park in Giralang to provide even more space for active play.
This year the ACT Government is providing free early childhood education to 4,609 pre-schoolers.
The ACT Government’s $2 million Active Streets for Schools program makes it easier for kids to walk and ride to school by delivering new and upgraded footpaths, improving road crossings, slowing traffic around schools, and providing more bike storage facilities.
Delivering on our election commitment, we are also providing school crossing supervisors at 20 of our busiest crossings adjacent to primary schools, supporting thousands of kids who walk and ride to school.
