Our world-class venues are home to international art exhibitions, live entertainment, cultural celebrations, food festivals and more, providing a major drawcard that supports a thriving tourism sector.

$48.6 million over the next 4 years supporting major & community events

Over 800,000 Canberrans and visitors have attended major ACT Government events this year.

National and international sporting events at Canberra’s stadiums have drawn crowds of more than 340,000 in the last year. Our national institutions have hosted internationally-renowned events Hyper Real, Cartier and Songlines, which have attracted more than 246,000 visitors to date.

Floriade keeps blooming

A Canberra icon, Floriade has grown into the largest festival of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. More than 434,000 locals and visitors attended Floriade in 2017.

Canberra on the international sporting stage

Our city will host its first Test Cricket match in February 2019 when Australia plays Sri Lanka.

The ACT Government has worked in partnership with Cricket Australia to ensure that our Manuka Oval facilities are at test standard. This includes constructing a new media centre at Manuka Oval to broadcast international sporting events to the world. The new centre will also support AFL fixtures and other major games, bringing more world-class sport to Canberra.

In this budget: $1.9 million for a new festival focused on innovation, design, culture, coding and gaming. $1.7 million to suppor the CBR NightCrew, $225,000 for a new Canberra Arts Biennial.
